Brendan McGorry

Brendan McGorry’s paintings are a rich exploration of growing up and of knowledge passed on between generations. His drawings and paintings are populated with the portraits of his sons, father, grandfather, himself, and the artists to whom he pays homage for the lessons learned. Combining fine drawing with a poetic form of colour-field abstraction, McGorry’s works are disarmingly honest expressions of what it is to be a father, brother, son, friend and artist. He explores his male world with lightness and great passion.

Brendan has been exhibiting since 1988. He is largely self-taught but credits the direction his practice has taken to his studies with the New York Studio School and his first-hand immersion in the content, composition and techniques of Italian Renaissance frescoes. McGorry has recently been a finalist in more than half a dozen national art awards.
